March 14: HHSC Maui Region Legislative Update
March 14, 2017
As the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Maui Region hospitals' transition to Kaiser on July 1 approaches, here's an update on outstanding issues and legislation:
- House Bills 233 and 234 are currently still alive and scheduled for hearings on Thursday, March 16, 9 a.m., State Capitol, room 016. These are conceptual vehicle bills intended to fully vet resolutions to the Employees' Retirement System (ERS) lawsuit which includes a restraining order that has stopped implementation of Act 1. HGEA strongly supports both bills. Click here for a link to sign in and submit testimony for HB 233 and click here for HB 234.
- The ERS lawsuit is still pending, waiting on an Internal Revenue Service opinion.
- HGEA's position is that affected employees need to know their options in anticipation of termination from State service.
Your support of these bills is appreciated.
