HGEA Opposes Administration Proposed Changes to Act 1
April 03, 2017
HGEA strongly opposes last minute proposed changes to Act 1 (Special Session of Laws of Hawaii 2016) introduced by the Ige administration and the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. These changes have not been legislatively vetted.
The Committee on Finance is scheduled to hear the new draft language of S.B. 207 on Tuesday, April 4 at 2 p.m., click here to view the hearing notice.
Instead of providing a special retirement benefit for employees, this proposed draft will:
• fund and implement severance benefits pursuant to a memorandum of agreement
• repeal in entirety the content of Act 1, including retirement pension and health benefits
• allow certain employees to purchase EUTF service credit for retirement at an unknown cost
• abolish all special pension provisions, including the modifications for age and years of service requirements
The proposed takeaway language can be view here.
We have strong objections to this proposed language. Please review the draft bill and consider submitting testimony to the Committee on Finance.
We will keep you updated.
