March 01, 2014

Melvin N. Puu, a Unit 14 member and water safety officer with the City & County of Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department, Ocean Safety Division, has been elected to a two-year term as Unit 14 state board director.

The special election for a Unit 14 director was conducted due to the establishment of the new Bargaining Unit 14 to represent state law enforcement officers and state and county ocean and water safety officers.

The new term for the State Board of Directors began July 1, 2013 and runs through June 30, 2015. All are volunteers and serve without compensation.

The deadline for protest or challenges on the conduct of this special Unit 14 election is March 6. The State Board of Directors will certify the results at its March 29 board meeting.

Ballots were mailed to eligible HGEA members on January 28, and counted in the Honolulu headquarters building today, March 1, by N&K CPAs, Inc., HGEA's third-party elections organization.
